Fang Island - Daisy
Really digging how alot of two peices are able to pull it off these days:
Helio Sequence, Black Keys, Middle Class Rut, Death From Above 1979, Mini Mansions, etc…
Caught these guys live back in ‘06 in Omaha, Nebraska. One of the very few good things to come out of Oregon.
Misprinted type
There’s something disturbing behind this type of artwork. Something stupid. And i like it. I first caught sight of this scratchy skewed imagery during the opening credits of the movie Se7en. Then when Thrice released their album “The Illusion of Safety” in 2002 the artwork was very similar and my interest resurfaced. Since then, taking a liking to the style, I’ve somehow managed to incorporate it into my graphic/multimedia designs whenever possible. I don’t have a clue as to what it really conveys in a convential sense, but overall there’s something very punk rock about it.
The Taste of Encino.
Stuck around the mucky Valley after my Sunday morning meeting to embrace Ventura Blvd.’s ‘Taste of Encino’… It was basically a two block cluster fuck of tents and gazebos showcasing the local talent from shops and restaurants. I even ran into a near 7 foot real life Ronald McDonald. Clowns will always be scary and I’ve never met a child who disagreed. And despite how delicious his Happy Meals are (which ultimately contributed to my near childhood obesity) Ronald is no exception. However, the afternoon’s greatest little surprise was some hole-in-wall Mexican joint (as usual). Can’t remember the name, but the picture above says it all. Cheese and Pork pupusas and a strawberry/banana smoothie with a pineapple as a cup made this little waste of space on Ventura Blvd SOMEWHAT enjoyable.
Dead Man’s Bones. It’s that time of the year to take out this record again and get spooky.
